STEM Internships at ARC

Engineering and Science Majors. Arcnano is perhaps the best place in the USA to intern with while you are an undergraduate. We prefer students from ME, EE, ChemE, MatSci, Physics and Chemistry.
Vocational or Technical College Students. We want you! Skills from these schools would include machining, tool & die, drafting, lab assistants, electronic technicians, IT and technical marketing.
STEM at Arcnano. Arcnano has interned over 60 students to date, and we have approximately 3 to 4 students at any given time. Many of our staff started out as student interns.
Arcnano prefers Freshmen and Sophomore class students and students who want at least 2 to 3 years of internship experience. This is because Arcnano is not 3M in size, and we will take time for your training and getting up to speed to the point you will be useful to us as a company. The upside is that you will likely learn many different operations at Arcnano, and you will not be bored.
Arcnano’s Rule for School is that School is Number 1 for Interns at Arcnano. During the school year we prefer at least 8 hours per week, with this commitment being dependent on your workload at school. We expect practically full-time hours during the summer and extended holidays. You will be given the week off ahead of Finals and Midterms.
STEM for High School Students too. If you don’t get happy with STEM in high school you might miss the boat, so we need to get more high school students into internship programs. We want you for about an hour or two after school. Then go home and do your homework. Homework is Number 1 for you but at Arcnano you will learn that making things is fun and important.
It is our experience that if you give up on the thought of engineering and science at the high school level, it is likely that you had a bad teacher, especially in math. Do not let bad math teachers discourage you from a career in engineering or science related fields. Our founder and CEO came from a terrible inner city high school and ended up going into physics and electrical engineering but only after getting a great math teacher in college totally by chance. That teacher was a practicing engineer and teaching at night for a part-time job. She was an electrical engineer at the power company in the daytime, teaching an evening class at the local college. And yes, she was that relatively uncommon female in the engineering world, at that time. She was an excellent teacher of math because she had an engineer’s viewpoint on math, and she was a naturally gifted teacher. Teachers can change the course of your life, so do not let those bad ones have any influence, or maybe you just blew it and goofed off. Forgive and move on. Use your agency to move ahead in life and become that skilled and competent person.
Matt started his internship as an electronic drafter in the Physics Department and otherwise worked his way through college from community college through graduate school at the U of MN. At Arcnano, we appreciate those students who have to work their way through college.
